A series composed of two prints by Grazi Azevedo.
This new constructive game explores the relationship between figure and background. From an initial generative structure, forms are originated by the articulation between full and empty spaces. In effect, figure and background blend together, creating an optical illusion. The slots in the paper, between the black and gray ink stripes, define the geometric construction giving contour to the shape. Thus, we see the background as a constitutive element of the image. The passage of light between the slots projecting the background are the source of all the geometry, like silhouettes on paper. The contrast between black and grey creates a visual sensation of depth, in order to detach the juxtaposed lines, which, tensioned, seem to oscillate between planes – foreground and background.
