JR. Can art change the world?

JR, the French shooting star of street art, realises international projects and installations in public spaces. Some installations are of a playful nature, such as when JR makes the pyramid of the Louvre in Paris disappear through a trompe-l’oeil.

But most of the projects are driven by the question: ‘Can art change the world?’ The projects focus on social and political issues. JR deals with topics such as freedom, commitment, community, identity, borders, migration, globalisation and poverty. The stories that these projects tell sharpen our view of the world. They are also intended to give local communities courage and hope.
