Adam Dant is renowned for creating detailed works with elaborate narratives that are reminiscent of the works of eighteenth-century social commentary artists such as James Gilray and William Hogarth. Rather than creating satirical works, Dant celebrates the trivia of the everyday in a humorous way to capture the essence of contemporary life. This new work celebrates Burlington House, Piccadilly, home to the Royal Academy of Arts. Here, the building is seen being ‘discovered’ in a dramatic mountainous setting, its famous Courtyard transformed into a chessboard for complex plotting and play.
