Adrian Wiszniewski RSA Biography

Adrian Wiszniewski RSA is an internationally-acclaimed Scottish artist known for his figurative style and potent symbolism.

Wiszniewski was born in Glasgow in 1958 and trained at Glasgow School of Art (1979-1983). Along with Ken Currie, Steven Campbell and Peter Howson, he was a leading voice in the revival of figurative painting in the 1980s. This group of young artists, all Glasgow School of Art graduates, became known as the 'New Glasgow Boys'.

Wiszniewski's work is characterised by strong draughtsmanship, rich imagery and vibrant colour. Populated with contemplative figures set in vividly-coloured Arcadian landscapes, his paintings and prints are rich with complex socio-political symbolism. His work is held in many significant international collections including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Metropolitan Museum, New York; Setagaya Museum, Tokyo; the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art and Tate Britain.
