

Born in Tipperary in 1956, Alice Maher studied Fine Art at the Crawford College of Art in Cork and the University of Ulster, Belfast. In 1987 she was a Fulbright scholar at the San Francisco Art Institute and was elected to Aosdána in 1996.
In 1994 she represented Ireland in the 22nd São Paulo Biennial and held a major solo exhibition at the Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin a year later. This was followed by solo shows at the Centre d’Art d’Ivry in Paris; Todd Gallery, London; Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane; Nolan Eckman Gallery, New York; Purdy Hicks Gallery, London; Mestni Muzej, Slovenia; Galleria di Nuova Icona, Venice, and the RHA Gallagher Gallery, Dublin amongst others.
Maher’s work can be seen in the public collections of the Irish Museum of Modern Art; Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Arts Councils of Ireland and Northern Ireland as well as in many private collections in Ireland, England, France and America.
