Akademie is one of Andreas Gefeller’s best-known works.
It is part of his series Supervisions (2002-2015), in which urban spaces or interiors are shown from an elevated position. These spaces are both real and constructed at the same time, composed of thousands of individual images.
Akademie shows the venerable Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf.
We see it from a new, unusual perspective and with a great wealth of detail.
Andres Gefeller collaged around 6,000 individual digital images for the work.
However, these shots were not taken all at once, but over a long period of time, so that there are sometimes many months between them. As a result, the events at the art academy are depicted over a long period of time rather than in a single moment – the work thus opens up new contexts in a playful way.
