Andy Warhol created Committee 2000 1981, a year before the widely popular Committee 2000 print series was to be made. Exemplary of Warhol’s take on the traditional still life painting, the pop artist used bright colors accented with a multicolor gradient to give the impression of movement. The brilliant blue, purple, and vibrant hot pink coloring of the piece establishes an extraordinary composition and gives the sense of excitement. This painting depicts what Andy Warhol described as a modern still-life painting. The scene depicts a celebration that has become rowdy with fallen champagne glasses and confetti everywhere, as if the image is still buzzing with activity. Allowing the viewer to seem like they are a part of the celebration, Warhol changes the meaning of a traditional still-life painting. Committee 2000 is one of many works that Andy Warhol was commissioned to create, and is representative of the pop artist’s influence on the commodification of high art and how he easily changed the meaning of classic painting styles.
