Andy Warhol created his Electric Chair portfolio in 1971. He first used an image of an electric chair in 1963, the same year that New York had its final two executions. His return to the subject in the 1971 produced this series of 10 different color variations of the same electric chair. Printed in bold, bright colors true to Warhol’s pop art style, the repetition of the powerful image was intended to empty it of its meaning. This Electric Chair portfolio comes in the original packaging as when it was first sold by the factory, and has never been framed or seen the light of day since its creation.
