Andy Warhol created Mick Jagger 141 for his portfolio of ten portraits of the Rolling Stones front man. Warhol and Jagger grew particularly close and highly respected one another as artists. In a letter to Warhol, who had agreed to design album art for The Rolling Stones, Jagger wrote, “I leave it in your capable hands to do whatever you want.” For his Mick Jagger portfolio, Andy Warhol screenprinted Polaroid photographs he took of Jagger in his studio. He then placed pieces of colored paper over the outline of Jagger’s portrait. Andy collaged scraps of orange, green, and black with pink scraps accenting Jagger’s eyes and his infamous lips. Both Jagger and Andy Warhol signed Mick Jagger 141.
