Park 8 is a part of the Park Suite, a series of woodcuts created in 2001 at Flatbed Press.
Ann Conner’s Park Suite used oak veneered specially prepared MDF centered plywood. Conner used a Japanese-made, hand-held reciprocating wood gauge to carve the designs into the blocks. She selected over fifteen different Asian papers to proof and had eight colors of ink to try on the papers. The decisions became more difficult as the colored papers with darker inks came into play. Conner’s objective was to have all eight prints work together as a complete work as well as singly.
Park 8 was the eighth print to be proofed and was printed onto Green Chinzei paper.
Park Suite 8 was printed using Handschy Reflex Blue, rolled in relief, and printed in relief using an intaglio press.
