The sculptor, Misawa Atsuhiko was born in Kyoto in 1961.
Since 2000, he has been creating the wooden life-sized sculptures of animals which are mainly made from camphor tree.
The colorful, chiseled works have a simply overwhelming presence that has been recognized by Japan’s highest sculpting award.
