AUDREY FLACK 1931-2024

Audrey Flack was an internationally recognized painter and sculptor and a pioneer of photorealism. Ms. Flack enjoyed the distinction of being the first photorealist painter whose work was purchased by the Museum of Modern Art for its permanent collection. Among the major museums around the world, her work also resides in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the National Museum of Women in the Arts.

This print is a hand colored serigraph.

The prints are two stages of the metamorphosis of Daphne.  In the attempt to escape the pursuit of Apollo, Daphne asks for help from her father the River God, and her mother the Earth Goddess. Their solution is to transform her into a tree. For me, she symbolizes the survival of nature over destruction and violence.’
