A matchless copy of the first monograph on Rodin and his sculpture, copiously illustrated. This is one of 60 numbered copies on Japan or Rives paper (this copy on Japan paper with a suite of the illustrations on China paper).
The original drypoint by Rodin, “Antonin Proust”, is present in two states (Delteil 10, vi and vii) both on Japan paper. The original chiaroscuro wood-engravings by Lepère (“Eve”) and Beltrand (“Figures de Purgatoire”) are present in four states each: the line block on china, the tone block on china, the final state without letters on china, and the final state on Japan.
There are numerous other original prints, including one etching by Courtry and many wood-engravings by various artists, on China and Japan.
This is furthermore A PRESENTATION COPY FROM RODIN, with his warmly inscribed and initialed visiting card laid in.
Large 4to. Beautifully bound in three-quarters morocco and decorated boards by H. CAPELLE (signed). Top edge gilt, other edges uncut. Original wraps and prospectus, also on Japan, bound in. Minor traces of wear to extremities of binding, else FINE AND BRIGHT.
