Neiland’s focus on automobiles or engineering as a vehicle (no pun intended!) for both paintings and prints stretches back to his student days at the Birmingham School of Art in the early 60’s.
Neiland reflects ‘I was very conscious of wanting to work with particular subject matter. I was asking myself what was Birmingham about?… I began visiting parts of the city I had never been in before, like the car factories…’ (taken from Brendan Neiland, On Reflection, Motivate Publishing, 1997.)
