Diptych monotype on paper and plastic with strings and stitching, printed on two sheets of paper. From a series of monotypes made in late 2016.
Wishing to incorporate vernacular materials into his artworks, Carlos Andrade has utilized “festones”, the colorful plastic flags commonly found in open markets and fairs in South America into this group of monotypes. These triangular/diamond shaped elements become an important part of the composition, provide transparent colors, and contrast with the paper surface. The synthetic strings remain attached to the festones, adding 3-dimensional linear elements.
