2-run photogravure with hand-cut folded elements
In Terrasse St. Denis, a 19th century French engraving of fanciful garden structures or follies, from the artist’s personal collection, inspires this two-plate, two-color photogravure with three-dimensional cut outs. The first plate captures the foxing and age-related traces of the antique paper, and is followed by a plate of the engraved image itself. The work is finished with intricate architectural cut outs that bring together the delicate, airy and inviting follies with heavier, stolid and forbidding structures created from an underlying layer of black paper.
