How better to mark the centernary of Dylan Thomas than with this iconic work. Framed with the full sheet showing. Ceri Richards was the first person Stanley Jones, Curwen’s master lithographer and erstwhile pupil of Richards’, invited to make a print in the Curwen Studio. The result was the Hammerklavier suite (one of which we also have on the website) printed in 1959.
Ceri Richards studied at Swansea School of Art and the Royal College of Art in London. Afterwards Richards spent most of his life in London, apart from a period teaching art in Cardiff, where he was head of painting at Cardiff School of Art during World War II. He was elected to the London Group in 1937. From 1959 onwards, he made prints for the Curwen Press. He was a prize winner at the Venice Biennale of 1962.
