Inspired by abstract forms of hands and tools, Charlie Hewitt is known for his sculpture, paintings, and woodcuts. Hewitt (b. 1946) studied at the New York Studio School under Elaine de Kooning and Philip Guston, and then returned to work in Maine. With geometric shapes and a bold contrasting color scheme, Hewitt’s work conveys an energy that captivates the viewer. Hewitt has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States and his work is in many notable collections including The Whitney Museum of Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York; the Fogg Museum in Cambridge and the Library of Congress in Washington D.C.
