Christopher Richard Wynne Nevinson (1889-1946) was a British artist who gained prominence during World War I as one of Britain’s most important war artists. Initially influenced by Futurism and Cubism, he created dynamic, angular compositions that captured the mechanical nature of modern warfare. His most famous works include “La Mitrailleuse” (1915) and “Paths of Glory” (1917).
Nevinson was also known for his striking cityscapes of New York and London, rendered in his distinctive modernist style. Despite his early association with avant-garde movements and friendship with Filippo Marinetti, he later adopted a more traditional approach. His critical reputation declined after WWI, though his war paintings remain his most celebrated works.
