David Bradshaw collaborated with William S. Burroughs on the Graphicstudio artist book Propagation Hazard, which combines text and imagery handprinted in lithography and etching and encased in a welded aluminum treadplate. Also published was Bradshaw’s Tread, an aluminum treadplate with a bullet hole. The artists were longtime friends united by a love of sharpshooting and explosives.
At a local firing range, Bradshaw expertly fired bullets to accurately place bullet holes in both the collaborative work and Tread. Bradshaw produces metal sculptures created through the unpredictable actions of high charged explosives. Propagation Hazard contains maps and diagrams documenting the artist’s procedures, in which he buries hunks of metal and then sets off a nearby explosion.
