Beautiful and White Flowers [Tokyo 58] is an etching and aquatint of two men at home. This print is one of thirteen etchings created for Illustrations for Fourteen Poems from C.P. Cavafy, based on sketches that are seen as some of Hockney’s most accomplished with his extremely efficient and eloquent line work.

Singed, dated 66 and numbered in pencil, this print is a proof aside from the edition of 75.

Print plate measures 34.5 x 22.3 cm. Print sheet measures 64 x 51.5 cm.

Framed. Overall frame measures 70.4 x 57 cm.

David Hockney, born in 1937, is a prolific 20th-century British artist renowned for his diverse exploration of painting, printmaking, drawing, videography, and digital art. His iconic style, marked by warmth and vibrant colors, delves into still life, portraits, landscapes, and personal themes like sexuality. The Artist

David Hockney

Born in Bradford England on the 9th July 1937 David Hockney was interested in art from a very early age, and was an admirer of Fragonard, Picasso and Matisse. The fifth of six children his parents encouraged his artistic experimentation. He went to the Bradford College of Art 1953-57. To fulfil his national service, he worked in hospitals as he was a conscientious objector to war. Then in 1959 he was accepted into the Royal College of Art, Graduate school in London.
