Original poster produced on the occasion of the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s 19th annual New York Film Festival. This poster duplicates David Hockney’s 1970 crayon drawing Window, Grand Hotel, Vittel. Through tall French windows can be seen a glimpse of verdant scenery of Vittel, located in the northeastern France. Long, elegant yellow and green curtains and a translucent underlayer fall just above the terra cotta floor. Every detail delights: in one window pane, the reflection of a quintessentially French wrought iron balcony, and the summer light silhouetting its ornate design.
Text reads: “The Nineteenth New York Film Festival, The Film Society of Lincoln Center, September 25-October 11, 1981, Alice Tully Hall.
