Declan Jenkins interprets the mythical figure of Utopos from Thomas More’s Utopia in this new woodcut. The artist ‘wanted to portray him as a warped and vicious creature [whose] ‘instrumentalised’ being is reflected in the mutation of his limbs into tools and weapons’.
Recent RA Schools Graduate Jenkins predominantly works with the mediums of woodcut and performative poetry and his work often explores questions surrounding the notions of creative self-consciousness and showmanship.
