Diane Victor is a major figure in contemporary South African art, with a talent for drawing and printmaking. Her works bear witness to the social problems endemic to South Africa and elsewhere, denouncing the shortcomings of a society marked by utopias, false pretences, corruption, violence and machismo. Renowned for her bold complex subjects, she skilfully examines the intersection of humanity and animality, exploring the concepts of metamorphosis and therianthropy.
She has won numerous awards and exhibited internationally, and her work is included in prestigious collections including the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Bibliothèque National in France, the IZIKO South African National Gallery etc.
All of Victor’s prints are original prints as she uses printmaking as a distinct medium to create artworks in their own right. She prints most of her own intaglio prints but also uses lithography and dry point in collaboration with master printmakers.
