Chimot’s rarest and most sought-after book. Illustrated with six original full-page hors-texte color etchings (with aquatint).

Edition limited to 97 numbered copies SIGNED BY CHIMOT, of which this is one of 75 numbered copies printed on fine Rives wove paper. WITH THE SUPPLEMENT (of truly obscene poems), OF WHICH ONLY A FEW COPIES WERE PRINTED (“Quelques exemplaires pour l’artiste et ses amis”).

The supplement includes four additional etchings, FOR A TOTAL OF TEN FINE COLOR ETCHINGS BY CHIMOT, CONSIDERED TO BE HIS BEST WORK.

Large 4to. Loose as issued in original wraps. Uncut. A bit of scattered foxing on text (plates clean), else fine and bright. In the original (slightly worn) board chemise and slipcase.

Edouard Chimot

Édouard Chimot (1880–1959) was a French artist, illustrator, and publisher whose creative journey left an indelible mark on the world of visual arts. Born on November 26, 1880, in Lille, France, Chimot’s early fascination with art led him to pursue formal training at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. His exceptional talents soon garnered attention, and he began illustrating books and magazines.
