In the summer months of 1919, Erich Heckel worked in Osterholz on the Flensburg Fjord, where he bought a house. He spent the summer months there until 1944. He decorated the house with murals (destroyed after 1945) and devoted himself to the landscape, the seashore and bathing scenes there in the same way as the ‘Brücke’ used to do on the Moritzburg ponds or Kirchner on Fehmarn, whom Heckel also visited there once. Here on a steep coast of the fjord.
