On wove paper. Probably one of the prints before the edition. Signed.
40 copies printed for the portfolio ‘Elf Holzschnitte, 1912-1919, Erich Heckel bei J. B. Neumann’, Berlin 1921, with the handwritten address of the printer Voigt.
Cf. the painting of the same composition (right side up) ‘Mädchen am Meer’ (Vogt 1918/04, whereabouts unknown). Probably a scene by the sea in Ostend while Erich Heckel was still serving in the war, as he was not able to return to his beloved Baltic Sea until 1919.
