Print of the first state before the frame line was interrupted and of the edition of 40 copies printed for the portfolio ‘Elf Holzschnitte, 1912-1919, Erich Heckel bei I.B. Neumann’, Berlin 1921. Copy on particularly large paper.

The motif shows a landscape in the Erzgebirge, where Heckel was staying at the turn of the year 1914/15.

The Artist

Erich Heckel

Erich Heckel was the founding member of the group Die Brucke. He was born in 1883 in Germany and between 1897 and 1904 studied architecture in Dresden. He left shortly after the foundation of Die Brucke, where he was the secretary and treasurer. In 1907 he resigned from his architectural position to become a full time artist.
