Ernesto Bonato Biography

Born in São Paulo in 1968. Master degree in Visual Arts at School of Communication and Arts of the University of São Paulo. Participated in the creation of the Educational Department of the Museum of Art of São Paulo (MASP), where worked from 1997 to 2003. Gives classes of Printmaking and Drawing at Armando Álvares Penteado Foundation (2004/05) and at the University Center SENAC (2001/2007). Is the coordinator of the Atelier Piratininga since 1995. Works with drawing, prints, photography, installation and urban art intervention and had his works exhibited in more than 180 individuals and collective exhibitions in Brazil and in many other countries like France, Netherlands, Canada, Argentina, Norway, Cuba, Poland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, United States. Received many prizes like the Unesco Prize, at the 14th National Exhibition, in Brazil. Is the coordinator of the Lambe-Lambe Project, with Fabrício Lopez, among many other collective projects (Trilingüe ABC. Gráfica atual, Ação na Pagú, L´Art Roman vu du Brésil, and others). Organized and had participated in many interchange projects, symposiums and talks about Art and Education. Worked as a curator of many exhibitions in Brazil and other countries, wrote educational texts about drawing, painting and printmaking. Also, he works as an illustrator and works on educational projects in Brasil and in other countries. He is responsible for the reconfiguration of Belmonte Library and coordinated the book Lugar, Tempo, Olhar – Contemporary brazilian artists in Romanic France. Nowadays works with woodcut and oil painting as a resident artist at University of Campinas (Unicamp), in Sâo Paulo state.
