Badende (Bathing Woman). On chamois imitation Japan. One of 3 prints by the artist known to date. With the estate stamp and the inscription ‘H 564 IV’ in ink as well as the numbers ‘K 5741’ and ‘C3308’ in pencil and ink on the verso.
‘Standing half nude (seen almost completely from the front); the lower BR cuts the thighs just above the knees. The head, whose hair touches the upper BR, is slightly inclined towards the left shoulder. The r. The r. hand is raised to the height of the cheek, the l. is held slightly sideways.’
For the dating see Delfs 1948 letter to Gustav Schiefler dated 4 Feb. 1928.
Possibly created in connection with the colour drawing ‘Stehender Akt mit Badetuch (Standing nude woman with bath towel)’ of the same year in this exhibition. A female standing three-quarter nude, the hair for once again overlapping the upper edge of the picture, a trick Kirchner used many times to increase the force of his figures. A beautiful bather in the new flowing drawing, backed by rather abstract forms of regular structure.
