On heavy Japan paper. One of 10 prints by the artist known to date. With the estate stamp and the designation ‘R 330 II D’ and the numbers ‘C3174’, ‘K 443’ and ‘24’ in pencil on the verso.
Earlier catalogues raisonnés:Schiefler R 330. There the description by Kirchner and Schiefler:
‘View into a stand of tall trees. In the centre of the picture a clearing; on the right and left one tall tree each: the left one growing straight up, the right one leaning a little to the right. Both stretch their roots diagonally to the left below, – just as the line structure of the forest floor in general shows an inclination from top right to bottom left. The background r. and l. is filled by loosely standing trees; only in the centre a view through. In the BE top left an elongated upward stretched cloud, above the vista a roundish clustered cloud. Otherwise the sky is covered with loose horizontal lines.’
