According to the annotation recto, this photograph shows Burroughs, Hopper and Southern meeting to discuss the forthcoming film adaptation of Burroughs’ novel Junky, directed by Southern and starring Hopper. The photographer, Malanga, worked closely with Andy Warhol at The Factory and took several iconographic photos from the period, including the 1975 portrait of Burroughs in front of his family’s corporate headquarters bearing his surname. The film was never produced.
