Notes:
1. The story of Abraham and Isaac is told in Genesis 22:

Note that Isaac’s mother apparently was 90 years old and Abraham apparently was 99 when their son Isaac was born. According to Genesis 22, as Abraham prepares to sacrifice his son Isaac, the angel of the Lord called out to him “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God because you have not withheld your son, your only son.”

2. Several very minor repairs. Signs of wear in upper corners but overall an outstanding impression of this major work.

The Artist

Harmensz van Rijn Rembrandt

Approximately 300 etchings and drypoints by Rembrandt were produced between 1626 and 1665. His work as a printmaker paralleled his career as a painter; he rarely dealt with the same subjects in both mediums, and he rarely made prints of his paintings. Above all, he was a brilliant experimenter and inventor in this field, frequently using standard materials in unexpected ways. His influence on printmaking is still visible in contemporary etchings.
