Heidi Specker (* 1962 in Damme) is a contemporary artist who has lived and worked in Berlin since 1992.
Heidi Specker studied design, photography/film design at the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences from 1984, graduating in 1990 with a diploma in design and visual communication. In 1991 she received a scholarship from the Franco-German Youth Office and in 1992 a work scholarship from the state of Lower Saxony. In 1995 she became a master student of Joachim Brohm at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig.
In 1996 Heidi Specker was awarded the European Photography Award by Deutsche Leasing AG. She also received a work scholarship for fine arts from the Senate Department for Science, Research and Culture, Berlin. In 1997 Specker was awarded the ars viva 97/98 – Media Art, a sponsorship prize from the Cultural Circle of the Federal Association of German Business in the BDI e.V. In 1999 she received a work grant from the Stiftung Kunstfonds, Bonn. In 2005 she was awarded the German Photography Prize for her book Im Garten / concrete for the exhibition of the same name at the Sprengel Museum Hannover. In 2010 Specker received a grant for the Villa Massimo in Rome. From October 2006 to September 2009 she was a substitute professor for photography and media at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig, where she returned after receiving the annual grant at the Villa Massimo in 2010/2011.
