At once serene and dynamic, this work investigates the quality of light, shadow and reflection on the surface of water. It is one of a series of two new prints that the artist describes as, “presenting a confined and intimate view of landscape”. Coleman’s starting point is her drawings in charcoal and ink which form the basis of multi-layered laser-cut elements in birch plywood. She uses layering to create opaque and transparent areas, with a ‘floor’ beneath a ‘surface’ above, and ‘transformation’ in-between.
