How to capture the natural landscape’s changing light and dramatic colour? Ian McNicol examines the subject with linear rhythm and painterly colourism in an image inspired by the contours of Ayrshire and Kirkcudbright.

McNicol says, “The work was made at Glasgow Print Studio between 2014 and 2015, and is impressionistic in approach”. The medium of etching, and ‘A la Poupée’ inking method, result in subtle colour blends and variations across the editions.

McNicol exhibits widely within the UK, and has his work in collections of the Portland Art Museum (Oregon), Cleveland Art Museum, Collins Galleries, Clayton Hotels, Grasshoppers Hotel (Glasgow), and the British Council (Edinburgh).
