Isabel Bishop. Eight Etchings, 1925-1931.
New York: Sylvan Cole Gallery / Midtown Galleries, 1989.
A portfolio of eight etchings by Bishop–INCLUDING BISHOP’S VERY FIRST PRINT (shown)–each in its own folder.
From a total edition of 60, all printed on fine Rives wove paper, THIS IS THE UNIQUE SET OF BONS A TIRER (“BATs”), printed for Sylvan Cole, the publisher.
Since the edition could be printed only after the BATs were produced, this is THE FIRST SET PRINTED. Each etching is justified (“BAT”) and bears Bishop’s stamped signature (she had died in 1988).
Furthermore, this is an outstanding association copy, having been in the private collection of Sylvan Cole (1918-2005), our founder, dean of American print dealers, until his death.
Sylvan, a close friend of Bishop’s, supervised the compilation of Teller’s catalogue raisonne of her prints.
Folio. Loose as issued in the original cloth clamshell case. FINE AND BRIGHT, with no defects.
