‘I am searching for a way to represent the complexity of female sexuality without presenting the body as an object of desire or an unattainable ideal’, says Rock. The starting point for these prints were drawings of female body parts made to collage onto large-scale representations of warriors. Inspired by their ‘seductive and joyful’ quality, she went on to produce a series of vibrant woodblock prints.
Taking inspiration from Japanese woodblock prints and Indian miniature painting, Rock’s subject matter combines humour, drama, fanciful characters, modern culture, mythical beings and fantastical situations.
