Original poster produced on the occasion of James Rosenquist’s exhibition at the Amos Anderson Gallery, organized by Petersburg Press. This vintage poster reproduces the artist’s 1973 lithograph Hey! Let’s Go for a Ride, based on the 1961 painting of the same title. A glistening green bottle top dominates the foreground, behind which a red-lipped woman smiles widely. Classic Rosenquist: slick, airbrushed advertising imagery sliced irresistibly into bombastic fragments of texture and color.

Text reads: “James Rosenquist, Complete Graphics, Amos Anderson 22.8 – 15.9.1974, an exhibition organized in association with the Petersburg Press.”

The Artist

James Rosenquist

Born in 1933, American James Rosenquist was one of the instigators of the Pop Art movement. The movement represents the integration of popular culture into fine art, and as such, Rosenquist’s previous occupation as a billboard painter helped influence his art in this direction. The characteristics of Pop Art – bright colours, dynamic shapes and the use of recognisable slogans and images – are clearly represented in Rosenquist’s work. His painting ‘F-111’ is made up of many images centred around a plane and is the size of a room.
