STATIONS III is a woodcut version of my STATIONS II project in etching and is part of my ongoing investigation into Art’s potential birth from linear strategies, both conceptual and technical. The images contained in this portfolio are in effect visual quantities counting from 1 to 5 and the back again to 1. On either side of the central figure 5 (a five sided shape that includes the line of symmetry) are the visual reciprocals of the quantities 1 through 4. Although inspired by the ancient counting systems that did not include the concept of Zero and had reciprocal quantities on either side of One (Unity), STATIONS III is a finite counting system that is self contained and self referential, and stands as a metaphor for my methods and studio practices, not only for my own work but for the linear strategies I employ in my collaborative print work with other artists at Center Street Studio.
