Jane Kent (born 1952, New York) is Professor in the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Vermont. She studied at University of the Arts, Philadelphia, and the London College of Printing. Her work is in the collections of the Brooklyn Museum, the Library of Congress, the National Gallery, The New York Public Library, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
Using the silhouettes of unfolded cardboard packaging as her starting point, Kent builds compositions of layered and juxtaposed shapes and colors. The resulting images are strikingly distinctive, and she succeeds in her wish to make something so you can’t take your eyes off it.
