This is a from a series of 16 watercolor monotypes related to the artist’s ‘Construction’ series of paintings. In the paintings, connected planes of color construct quasi-architectural spaces whose axonometric geometry plays with flatness and schematic depth, resisting settling into naturalized space. In the monotypes, however, the process and the geometry gets a repetitive, obsessive, calligraphic treatment, trading the more solid structure of the paintings for the restless ephemeral movement and agitated becoming of the accumulative marks. The Construction prints evoke the struggle of building a world – new spaces — from the shattered parts of the old one.
