‘I found out that Lancing Fork Lift Trucks were used at The Royal Opera House for moving and shifting scenery and large stage pieces. You’re right, there is a sense of humour there. As is with productions, there is always a great deal of rehearsal. As you see on the lithograph, of the eight images of the fork lift truck only one is perfect. The others are faulted in one way or another; for example, soft focus, back to front, scratches etc, leaving the ‘final performance’ perfect, so it became the instrument of the arts.’ John Claridge, 2014
