Relief print from glass block and lithograph print

John Scott’s multi-dimensional work I Remember Birmingham is the recollection of a tragic event in American history, the 1963 race-related bombing of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, which resulted in four deaths.

To memorialize this needless loss of life, the artist has employed image and text, color and black and white, and two-dimensional and three-dimensional works. The glass blocks were etched by the Graphicstudio process heliorelief. Ink was applied to the surfaces of the block in order to make relief prints. Colored ink was then rubbed into the blocks to achieve a stained glass effect.
