Joseph Raffael (1933 – 2021) was an American contemporary realist painter. His works are influenced by both the enveloping “paintscapes” of the Abstract Expressionists and his experiences in textile design. His method has always relied heavily on photographs and recurrent themes include Japanese carp, water, flowers, gardens and lily ponds.
