JR has had a long-standing interest in ballet, but his direct collaboration with ballet dancers started in 2014 when he was commissioned by the New York City Ballet to design and make a large installation on their premises. “It was the first time they had let a non-choreographer take over the stage,” JR recalls. “So for me it was a big responsibility.” By forging collaborations between the worlds of ballet and street art, JR broke down social barriers and introduced both sides with new media.
This is signed, numbered and dated in pencil by the artist on the front and blindstamped on the front. This is sold unframed in mint condition, as issued in the original Social Animals packaging.
