The series of seven plates engraved with a mezzotint rocker and drypoint were inspired by Judith Rothchild’s sketches of her model, Monica. She printed them on Rives BFK tan paper in an edition of twelve plus a demonstration copy.
The images are accompanied by fragments of Paul Valéry’s text Degas, Danse, Dessin.
The marbled papers on the covers and clamshell boxes are also the work of the artist.
The hand-set letterpress, Vendôme romain, was composed and printed by Mark Lintott on a Albion press of 1867. All of the books are presented in clamshell boxes also created by Mark Lintott. The deluxe edition (numbers 1/12 to 7/12) include one of the original copper plates.
