Monotype is a method of printing that produces a single, unique print rather than a limited edition. In this direct method of printmaking the artist makes a painting on a plate which is then printed. For this piece the artist painted with watercolor directly on a sanded acrylic plate. The impermeable surface caused the paint to pool, settle and dry in ways distinctly different than on paper.. When completely dry the plate was run through a press, transferring the image onto damp paper under tremendous pressure.
