Jürgen Stollhans (* 1962 in Rheda) is working in the fields of painting, installation and drawing.
Stollhans studied painting under Norbert Tadeusz at the Münster Art Academy in 1983. In 1986 he moved to Düsseldorf Art Academy to study sculpture under Erich Reusch. Stollhans has lived and worked in Cologne since 1989.
In his works he makes references to art and everyday history. He uses scientific and popular image forms and plays with the themes of copy, original, truth and forgery. He took part in documenta 12 with his work “Caput mortuum” (Latin for skull).
In November 2014, Stollhans was awarded the Konrad von Soest Prize by the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe. He had solo-exhibitions at Kunsthalle Münster Museum Ostwall Dortmund, Städtische Galerie Nordhorn or Bonner Kunstverein.
