Shepherd has produced many prints, her first prints being created in the 1990s. Most of Kate Shepherd’s prints are lithograph and silkscreen prints. All of Kate Shepherd prints are original prints as Shepherd saw printmaking as a distinct medium to create artworks.
Born in New York, NY in 1961, Kate Shepherd received her BA from Oberlin College in 1982 and an MFA from the School of Visual Arts in 1992.
Kate Shepherd is a contemporary American painter known for her subtle abstractions. After first applying several smooth layers of reflective enamel paint, Shepherd creates complex architectural forms with fine lines of oil paint. “I am very interested in the relativity of colours, how they interact and how a palette is created, like in a yearly series of monotypes I do using the same image adjusted and flipped to create 200 different gradations of one hue,” she has said.
